Filmic 2013: Philip Glass - Etudes and Other Work for Solo Piano at St George's
Please note: this event took place in May 2013
In what must surely be Bristol's musical event of the year, Philip Glass, the world's most celebrated contemporary composer, visits St Georges as part of Filmic to perform a solo piano programme including his celebrated 'Etudes'. A still-evolving series begun in the mid-90s, recorded in 2003, the 'Etudes' have, says Glass, a two-fold purpose: "First, to provide new music for my solo piano concerts. And second, for me to expand my piano technique with music that would enhance and challenge my playing. Hence the name Etudes, or 'studies'. The result is a body of work that has a broad range of dynamic, tempo and emotion.
Ticket prices: £25.00 - £33.00. You can buy tickets to this event online or by calling St George's Box Office on 0845 40 24 001.
Join Philip Glass in conversation at Watershed on Tue 14 May at 13:00, and experience four of his finest scores (including The Fog of War, Kundun, The Hours and Koyaanisqatsi) in our May Sunday Brunches. We're also screening Glass - A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts, a documentary that gives a unique glimpse into the legendary composer's life, on Sun 5 May.
Please note that this event takes place at St George's Bristol.
