Babeldom (15)
Dir: Paul Bush
80 mins, 2012, UK
Please note: this was screened in March 2013
This portrait of a futuristic city is experimental animator and filmmaker Paul Bush's debut feature film, a mesmerising science fiction documentary about two lovers trying to communicate with each other - one from inside the city and one outside. Why is this so hard for them? Because the city in question is Babeldom, massive and growing at such a speed that light itself will not escape its gravitational pull. The beauty of Bush's vision is that all the images of this colossal city of the future come from footage and high tech imagery of architecture, science and technology from the present day. An elegy to urban life, the myths (and realities) of cities, and our place within them.
Presented in partnership with Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival.
Ticket prices: Screenings before 16:00: £5.50 full/£4.00 concs. Screenings after 16:00: £8.00 full/£6.50 concs.
