He was the longest serving Labour MP in history, and arguably the most popular UK politician of all time, he was also Labour MP for Bristol South East for more than 30 years and during his time serving our city he championed many causes, opposed racism and ensured that Concorde would be built at Filton. He also tried to have the Queen's head removed from our stamps, he was the last Westerner to interview Saddam Hussein and he proposed to his wife 9 days after they met!
