Will and Testament
classified 12APlease note: This was screened in Oct 2014
Through intimate interviews and the use of his own personal, photographic and film archive this fascinating documentary reveals a very human face behind the political mask of the venerable Tony Benn. He was the longest serving Labour MP in history, and arguably the most popular UK politician of all time, he was also Labour MP for Bristol South East for more than 30 years and during his time serving our city he championed many causes, opposed racism and ensured that Concorde would be built at Filton. He also tried to have the Queen's head removed from our stamps, he was the last Westerner to interview Saddam Hussein and he proposed to his wife 9 days after they met!
This is an exclusive and deeply personal look at the life of a national treasure, a frank, candid and sometimes painful exploration of the great themes of life that affected him and affect us all, love, loss, hopes, dreams, fears and death. Never before has a person of his calibre and reputation spoken to camera in such a direct way - he will be missed.
Presented in partnership with Bristol Festival of Ideas.
