Join us for some festive family fun in this latest charming stop-motion animated fable from Laika, the creators of Paranorman and Coraline, about an orphan boy raised by underground cave-dwellers.
In the Victorian town of Cheesebridge, when all good citizens are safe inside beastly creatures roam the night. At least that’s what everyone’s been told. Welcome to the magical world of the Boxtrolls, where one lucky orphan boy called Eggs lives happily with his unusual family deep below the street in a cavernous underground world. This community of quirky, mischievous trash collectors transform treasures into incredible inventions, careful never to be seen by human eyes. Through Eggs we learn that these creatures aren’t so scary after all but when the villainous town pest exterminator comes up with a plot to get rid of them, Eggs decides to venture above ground where he teams up with the fabulously feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning), with whom he devises a daring plan to save his family.
Based on the British children’s novel Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow and also featuring the voices of Richard Ayoade (The I.T Crowd), Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) this splendidly inventive, rollicking ride of a film is a celebration to the fact that it’s ok to be square!
