This Cannes Jury Prize-winner tells the story of a model Swedish family on a skiing holiday in the French Alps: businessman Tomas (Johannes Bah Kuhnke), his willowy wife Ebba (Lisa Loven Kongsli) and their two children.
The sun is shining and the slopes are spectacular, but during a lunch at a mountainside restaurant, an avalanche suddenly bears down on the happy diners. With people fleeing in all directions and his wife and children in a state of panic, Tomas makes an instinctive, split-second decision that will shake his marriage to its core and leave him struggling to reclaim his role as family patriarch. What would you do in his situation?
Force Majeure asks some tricky questions about the male ego, the concept of a female protective instinct, and forgiveness. How should men behave exactly? And what happens when they don’t live up to expectations? This wickedly funny and precisely observed psychodrama will see you skiing down a black run into an even darker chasm.
