Director Michael Winterbottom and comedian, provocateur-come- aspiring revolutionary Russell Brand join forces in this polemical documentary about the financial crisis and gross inequality currently facing modern societies. Starting with the genesis of today's economic policies, Winterbottom and Brand explore the financial practices that have come to dominate the western world. The economist Milton Friedman once said that every crisis was an opportunity; but where the financial crisis of 2008 could have been a chance to reform a system for the benefit of everyone, instead, austerity throughout Britain and Europe was the price to be paid for supporting a financial sector - with UK taxpayers spending £131 billion to keep the UK financial system afloat, while across the pond $30 trillion in support and subsidies went to Wall Street.

A potent mix of documentary, interviews, archive footage and Brand's distincitve comedic touch, that takes us on a journey from his hometown of Grays in Essex to the heartland of the international banking centres of London's ‘City’ and New York's 'Big Apple'. A daring film that will shake your world as it reveals the bewildering truth about how the people at the bottom are paying for the luxuries of those at the top.

  • The screening will by followed by a live broadcast satellite Q&A with Russell Brand and Michael Winterbottom.
