Talk

Please note: This event took place in May 2015

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

In this weeks talk Studio resident and Compass Presents Co-founder Tara Sachdeva and Movement Director Matt Mulligan will talk about Compass Presents, which creates immersive events and encounters that combine visual content, music and performance, aiming to present these elements from a new perspective through their interaction with one another. The Caligari Experience is Compass Presents’ current project.

The Caligari Experience is a gothic re-staging of a haunting piece of early 20th Century German Expressionism, bringing together dancers, circus performers and aerialists. Characters that have been lost in time and held captive within the silver-screen since the sepia silent era. Now they escape to bring this sinister story to life amongst the projection-animated streets, scenes and crooked buildings of a century-old town. Key to the ‘expanded cinema’ experience the show aims to present is the 3D projection-mapped set, which collaborators Limbic Cinema; designed, built, created through hand-painted watercolour scenes, and digitally animated through projection-mapping.

They will talk about Compass Presents’ development as a Creative Arts organisation moving increasingly into the Digital Arts, and present The Caligari Experience with a view to opening up discussion and sharing ideas as part of on going research and development of the show.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
