Graham Greene's original screenplay is an astonishing tale of friendship, mystery and deception. American author Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton) arrives in post-WWII Vienna to learn that his friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles) has recently been killed. After conversations with some of Lime's associates in the city however, he grows increasingly suspicious. Martins embarks on a mission to uncover the truth surrounding Lime's demise, being dragged through ever-murkier waters toward a conclusion that he could have never foreseen. Beautifully shot, scripted and scored, The Third Man is an intensely gripping thriller that the BFI rated as the best British film of the 20th century.
