Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Oct 2015

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

It’s one thing seeing an idea developed from initial brainwave through to trial in a live performance setting, but it’s quite another taking a technology-enhanced show on the road for multiple performances. Cirque Bijou are experienced producers of indoor and outdoor shows that combine live performance with digital technologies including projection mapping, programmable LED effects and other wirelessly controlled systems.

In this lunchtime talk, Director Julian Bracey will consider the challenges involved in touring complex show-ready technologies to multiple venues. What happens when staff teams change, budget is tight and you only have 2 hours to put the show in? If the show is outdoors, how will the weather affect it? How do you know what you have created is appropriate for your audience if the show is free-to-attend? As he begins work on a brand new outdoor show he is also looking at ways to use digital technology every step of the way, from the consultation, creation, sharing, and within the very fabric of the show.

Cirque Bijou are a creative production company and one of Bristol City Council’s Key Arts Providers. They created and produced the launch for Bristol Green Capital, and co-director Julian has created performance, props and special effects for world tours with Muse, Take That and Katy Perry. This year he directed and produced a large-scale finale show for MineCon2015 and a new interactive digital performance, Hoops in Motion, for The John Bishop Show which is also currently in the running for France Has Got Talent. His new outdoor touring show will take up where previous touring show Project 3Sixty (2008-12) left off.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
