Event

Please note: This event took place in Oct 2015

Rife Magazine, our online platform written for young people by young people are running a free masterclass with Peep Show co-creator and comedy writer, Jesse Armstrong to talk about script-writing and getting your work out there. The masterclass is open to 16 – 24 year olds and is a great opportunity to learn new skills, network and get some experience.

WHEN IS IT?: Mon 19 Oct 2015, 16:00 - 17:15 (places allocated on first come first served basis)

WHERE IS IT?: Due to excessive demand for spaces, we have moved this event into Cinema 3.

The talk will start at 16:00 sharp and it’ll be in the form of a Q&A. Come with questions, queries, pleas for advice, and Jesse will answer them.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?: What do you want it to be about? Jesse will be talking about his route into comedy, what makes a good script, how to create lasting characters, what inspired Super Hans and how he got to where he is today. There won’t necessarily be a focus on your own ideas as unfortunately time is limited!

WHO IS IT?: Jesse Armstrong is a British comedy writer, best known for the Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show and the BBC Four political satire The Thick of It. He also created Babylon and Fresh Meat with his writing partner Sam Bain, and wrote an episode of Black Mirror that is being adapted for a feature film. His first novel, Love, Sex And Other Foreign Policy Goals came out in 2015.

WHO IS IT FOR?: Comedy writers, scriptwriters, filmmakers and people who are looking to get to the next stage now they’ve got a script full of LOLs and bants.

WHAT NOW?: It’s free, but because we know this will be busy, we’re only offering limited spaces to people. So, if you want to come, you have to RSVP, by emailing the editor, Nikesh and asking for a space. We encourage people from a BAME background to come.
