The Commune reunites Thomas Vinterberg (Festen) with scriptwriter Tobias Lindholm (The Hunt, A Hijacking) in a story that focuses on the clash between personal desires versus the solidarity and tolerance in a commune in mid-70s Copenhagen.
Vinterberg's own experience of living in a commune as a child has inspired this affectionate and moving film about the joys and perils of communal life. Anna (Trine Dyrholm, who scooped the Best Actress prize in Berlin) and Erik (Ulrich Thomsen), a professional couple with a teenage daughter, inherit a large house, which they decide to populate with friends and eccentrics. Celebrating with a group nude swim, these idealists and dreamers begin the process of negotiating their new, joint life. However, their ideal of tolerant socialist living is eclipsed by an earth-shattering love affair, putting their relationship, their community, and the commune to its greatest test...
