Newly digitised and restored these four documentary films accurately represent the turning point in Lithuanian documentary cinema and establish a dialogue between filmmakers from two different generations.

Henrikas Šablevičius was one of the most acclaimed documentary filmmakers, who has developed poetic language in his short films since the 70s. His film ‘We were at our own field’ (1988) builds a more open reflection towards the Soviet period. While Saulius Beržinis in his investigative documentary ‘The Brick Flag’ (1988) criticises the Soviet army and precisely portrays the transitional period.

Audrius Stonys and Arūnas Matelis are important documentary filmmakers in “turning point generation”. They continued the tradition of “poetic” documentaries after Lithuania restored its independence, but also brought a new perspective on the changes they experienced during that period.
