Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in March 2017

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

For the past year Free Ice Cream have been developing a game called 2030 Hive Mind for the ODI and the UN SDG Action Campaign. The game was the core of this month's Global Festival of Ideas for Sustainable Development AKA the playable conference.

2030 Hive Mind is the first major project from Free Ice Cream. The company is focused on using games and play to help people engage with complex subjects. In this case that complexity comes in the form of a policy simulation where players get to try and collaboratively achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by selecting the policies they want to fund/ back.

In this Lunchtime Talk game designer Simon Johnson will discuss the role of play and games in giving access to complex content and they'll be an opportunity to play the game itself.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to studio@watershed.co.uk
