Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson star in this powerfully moving thriller, an adaptation of Hans Fallada's 1947 novel, based on the true story of a husband and wife who became part of the German resistance during WWII.

Otto and Anna Quangel (Gleeson and Thompson) are an ordinary couple in 1940s Berlin, doing their best to ride out the war. But when their son is killed on the frontlines, they pour their rage and grief into postcards emblazoned with anti-Nazi sloagans, risking everything to disseminate their messages of protest across the city. Their small act of subversion has rattled a Gestapo detective (Daniel Brühl), however, who will not rest until the culprits have been caught...
