The Museum of Bristol ran a project called Roman Roots in which young people investigated the ruins of a Roman villa in Lawrence Weston. This workshop marked the culmination of the project, and the stories incorporate what was learnt and the activities involved in the project.

Transcript

Hello, my name is Alexandrea and i give regular tours of my vast household. My villa is just south of the port aboni and faces away from the shore.

The tour always starts at my front door, with the large atrium behind. My husband Georgus and our friend Saharius then talk about our passageway.

Georgus then leads our guests towards me and our servant morgana as i explain about our hypo-caust and why we don’t use that door to enter.

Saharius takes any chance to show of his fighting skills with my husband.

I guide our audience towards the bedrooms and the other door to the hypo-caust and my sooth-seyer will usually be there to tell the terrible story of the future.

We show the guests our amazing mosaics and our fridgedarium, tepidarium and our caldarium where women are not allowed while men are bathing. Then we invite our guests to eat some of our exotic foods. and toast our wine ”To the Roman Empire”.
