South Blessed: Interview with Vince Baidoo
Little Ryan chats to Vince Baidoo from South Blessed about his roots and vision for online storytelling.
Vince Baidoo from South Blessed came in to Rife magazine and spoke about his life and how he got started in the industry.
Vince was always interested with storytelling since he was 4. At 15 he started a three-man team, originally known as VPG Entertainment (Vince Pat Guy Entertainment). VGP started with storytelling though film and gaming. VGP hosted events and did the first-ever Streetball tournament. He also had a website that hosted profiles for Bristol artists but 6 months later, Myspace came out.
South Blessed started as a clothing brand for St Pauls Carnival. Vince had no idea what it would evolve into. Using the Jamaican flag, he put it within the heart. The tshirt said “I *Heart* SP”. This symbolic logo is now a classic, the logo for South Blessed was born.
He had such a good response from the name South Blessed and the logo, he knew he could use this as a new platform for media. Vince always tried to help other Bristol artist to get noticed and even tried to get the London based Smokey Bars TV (SBTV) to come to Bristol in order to view talented musicians, but SBTV would not come down to Bristol to help promote musicians. Vince quickly implemented the music scene of Bristol and pumped it right into the South Blessed brand as a new platform for up coming artist in Bristol.
South Blessed became a predominately music-based channel, and later expanded to be a bit of everything, from comedy sketches (Buck It) to the more political (Bristol Riots).
Currently, Vince has been working really hard on something big for Bristol: ‘Indigo Babies‘. Indigo Babies is a graphic novel and it made its debut on 16th May 2014. Its main selling point for me is that it’s based in Bristol, so people who live here will really be able to relate to the streets and areas that it’s set in. To cut a long story short yeah, basically, If you’re a ‘Dragonball Z’ fan or a ‘Naruto fan’, ‘Indigo Babies’ is going to be the Bristol version of these classic anime. Yeah, that’s right, it’s going to be heavy!!!!
