Luckwell Primary School, Bristol Uk
A selection of art based responses to local environmental
problems in different medium by Year 5 pupils from Luckwell Primary
School.
"Year 5 at Luckwell Primary School have been
involved in many environmental projects during their time at the
school, they currently run an Eco Club that organises recycling
throughout the school. When they were approached about helping to
create a website to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Rio summit,
they immediately suggested an enormous number of ideas and design
concepts. it was decided that the children wanted to follow a path
that would have an immediate effect on their own local environment.
Therefore, they decided to make pledges that they could follow for
the rest of their lives.
This supports the 'Think global, act local' idea.
The children's art work illustrates what they feel the environment
would be like if they kept their pledge and if they did not keep
their pledge. The work deliberately has very little writing as it
is intended to appeal to as broad an audience as possible, crossing
age, language and national boundaries.
It was a project that the class has been very commited
to, and the entire school has been very interested in. We now hope
that more people will agree with our pledges and either make their
own or support ours."
