BEAM Live

BEAM Live was a evening of live music and art, inspired by Michel Legrand’s most iconic song, The Windmills of Your Mind, the Oscar-winning song from The Thomas Crown Affair.

The event, which took place as part of Filmic 2012, featured live iPad art from street artist and See No Evil curator Inkie, and was a UK first. DJ Cheeba and Scott Hendy (Malachai / Boca 45) provided the music, cutting and splicing audio and video featuring Inkie’s live iPad creations to a packed audience in Watershed's café/bar.

In this video, the event organisers Mark Cosgrove (Head of Programme, Watershed), Stephen Barnes, and Scott Hendy discuss the inspiration for BEAM Live, and street artist Inkie and DJ Cheeba talk about the creative culture of Bristol.

Stephen Barnes co-runs the Bristol Music Foundation and is the co-curator of BEAM Live. Stephen is also director at The Upshot, and manager of the band The Naturals.

Inkie is a painter and street artist who was artistic curator of See No Evil, a two-day street art event that saw twenty internationally renowned artists transform the centre of the city. Inkie is widely recognised as being a key member of Bristol’s graffiti heritage.

Scott Hendy (Boca 45) is a Bristol-based DJ and producer who has released music on the famous UK record label, Ninja Tune, and whose musical projects include Malachai, a two-piece fronted by vocalist and lyricist, Gee.

DJ Cheeba is a DJ, VJ, and resident of Ninja Tune’s legendary Solid Steel radio show. His groundbreaking video projects have seen him tour some of the most prestigious venues in the UK and Europe.

This event was a collaboration between Watershed and the Bristol Music Foundation and took place as part of Filmic 2012.
