Bristol’s annual film-meets-music celebration returns through March and April for a mix of screenings, concerts, special events and after-shows across the city, programmed collaboratively by Watershed, Colston Hall and St George’s, Bristol.
Launching at Watershed on March6with the first of a series of three film-related AV commissions fromDJ Cheeba, subsequent highlights include St George’s appearances by composer Jocelyn Pook, whose concert (Sat 16 March) features her music from Glenn Close-starring The Wife, Stanley Kubrick’s final film Eyes Wide Shut and Netflix true crime hit ‘The Staircase’. St Georges also plays host to performances by cult pianist Hauschka (Thu 11 April), composer for the film Lion; and the legendary founder of minimalism, Terry Riley (Sat 13 April), with the latter followed by a filmic commission from cult Bristol soundscapers Eyebrow. Here at Watershed, there’ll be a special focus on the film soundtrack work of Radiohead musicians Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke as well as legendary film composer John Williams, whose early work is revisited in a season screenings preceding a special live music/big screen treat of Stephen Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial: In Concert, at Bristol Hippodrome (Wed 24 April), presented by Colston Hall.
