Anim18: A Celebration of British Animation

Season

Please note : this season finished in Oct 2018

This year, we’re inviting animation lovers of all ages to join us for a very special season exploring the innovative, imaginative world of British (and Bristolian!) animation.

Our packed season includes nostalgia trips from the 1960s, a showcase of fresh animation and artist talent in Bristol today, and an opportunity to introduce a generation who’ve grown up on Peppa Pig and Sarah and Duck to even more great homegrown animated film and television on the big screen.

In October we welcome back Bristol favourites Wallace and Gromit for a brand new Scratch ‘n Sniff cinema event featuring Aardman’s The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. From Stinking Bishop to Bunny Burps, immerse your senses in the duo’s first feature-length film, complete with giant vegetables, ‘Anti-Pesto’, and a mysterious beast on the loose, promising olfactory amusement for audiences of all ages.

We are hosting free hands on creative workshops inspired by the films where and we will provide all the materials and guidance. Families can come and join up animators and artists - all you need to do is drop by!

Head to the Café & Bar throughout the holidays for children’s programme notes, colouring in, and activities. Online with the BFI Player, you can explore an animated portrait of Britain, watching short animated films for free. We’ll also be celebrating the power of super short filmmaking from the UK with 90 second films from our DepicT! archives playing before some of our main features.

Part of Anim18: A Celebration of British Animation. For activities and events across the UK see anim18.co.uk.

Led by Film Hub Wales and Chapter (Cardiff) working with the BFI Film Audience Network and project partners, with the support of the BFI, awarding funds from The National Lottery.
