Restored and Rediscovered

Cinema Rediscovered 2019

Season

Please note : this season finished in July 2019

We profile and preview some of the latest new restorations of classic films before they are re-released in cinemas and also shine new light on lost films which have recently been rediscovered and presented at our partner festival Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna.

This year's restorations include Robert Bresson's critically and popularly overlooked first colour film, returning to the big screen with greater potency than before ahead of its theatrical re-release. There's also a chance to revisit the restoration of Steve James' landmark documentary Hoop Dreams, twenty five years after its premiere at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival alongside Hale County, This Morning This Evening, a much more recent touchstone for non-fiction film.
