Afrika Eye is back, after a year of not being able to connect with our audiences, we have a live programme across the city exploring global issues with Africa as the focus. As the largest celebration of African film, arts and culture in the South West, we are as always delighted to be partnering with Watershed, our festival home now for over 10 years. Our programme of films tells stories of lives lived and lives imagined, created by remarkable filmmakers from Africa and the diaspora. This year we’re pleased to bring you a number of exceptional documentaries.

We’re thrilled to be opening with Elder's Corner, directed by Siji Awoyinka, a film reaching back in time to the musical icons of 70’s Nigeria, tracing their histories and personal experiences. We're also excited to be screening Lingui - The Sacred Bonds, from Chadian master filmmaker Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, their latest creation is a richly layered film, examining the many challenges that women face living within a patriarchal society.

There will be live music in the Café & Bar on Friday evening, with guitarist extraordinaire Justin Adams and his latest collaboration ‘Lifting Spirits’ with maestro ‘gimbri’ player Mohamed Errebbaa. We believe they will do just that!

We are happy to announce several new festival partnerships, which include, Rising Arts, Queer Vision, Kiki Bristol and Sheba Soul. Akulah Agbami of Sheba Soul will be in conversation with Florence Ayisi, director of The Bronze Men of Cameroon, post Saturday’s screening.

Finally we are especially excited to show our own home-grown documentary, Rooted In Bristol, a story of people of African heritage and their relationship with the land on the allotments of Bristol over many decades.
