A deserving winner of Cannes’ Un Certain Regard prize, this sumptuous tale of two sisters cruelly separated by family and fate makes for a deeply moving drama.

Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s. The joyful and self-determined sisters Eurídice (Carol Duarte) and Guida (Julia Stockler) still have their whole lives ahead of them: while talented musician Eurídice is dreaming of training at the Vienna Conservatory, Guida follows her supposedly true love to Greece. The two inseparable women plan to stay in touch by intensely corresponding - however, the course of life, patriarchal society, and not least their own father, foresee a different fate. Will they find each other in time to overcome the oppression that suffocates them?

Brazilian master director Karim Aïnouz stages a colourful, bittersweet and sensual melodrama around two ‘invisible’ women’s lives.
