Tin Bath test of interactive captioning
Wed 25 Aug, 2010
At mac, Birmingham for a ten minute performance and Q&A by Tin Bath, testing their new material and elements of the interactive captioning system. There is a mix of hearing and deaf people in the audience and there is unbelievable levels of translation going on (signing, lip reading and speaking) between the audience and performers.
We have also been joined by Yousif from Nottingham University who is creating the captioning system and BBC’s See Hear who are making a piece on the project to be broadcast on Wednesday 29th September.
A lot of the technology was Wizard of Oz today (i.e. faked for testing) as the point is user testing on what people like/want/understand. There is some really great and useful feedback coming back, which I am sure Gemma and Sophie will blog.
In the meantime, here are some photos of the event.
