Fri 6 Dec, 10:30 - 15:45
This special study day is designed for A-level French teachers and students. Conducted in French, the morning session will compare Truffaut’s seminal Les 400 Coups (1959), Godard’s A bout de soufflé (1960) and Varda’s Cleo de 5 à 7 (1962) to contemporary films which present current social issues of class and ethnic divisions like Kassovitz’s La Haine (1995), Cantet’s Entre les Murs (2008) and Sciamma’s Bande de filles (2014). Through exploring key scenes and applying textual analysis, students will simultaneously extend vocabulary while improving their understanding of film language. In the afternoon there will be an introduced screening of La Haine (1995), followed by a Q&A.
Led by Dr. Emily Salines, Senior Lecturer, University of the Arts London.
