Returning for its fourth edition, Cinema Rediscovered celebrates great films back on the big screen. It’s an opportunity to discover - or indeed re-discover – some of the finest new digital restorations, contemporary classics and film print rarities from across the globe. We pride ourselves on creating a friendly space for all to share passions and enthusiasms for film and putting a spotlight on lesser known cinematic voices.
The festival is presented by Watershed and partners and takes place in Bristol, UK and the surrounding region between Thu 25 – Sun 28 July at venues including Watershed, 20th Century Flicks and Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema & Arts.
We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers with a passion for cinema to help assist with the running of festival operations.
Why Should You Apply?
Volunteering at Cinema Rediscovered is a great opportunity to get insights into the running of a film festival and develop your skills, confidence and film industry networks. You will meet others with a passion for cinema and will get plenty of opportunities to socialise with cinema goers and film industry practitioners. At the volunteer induction session and throughout the festival, you will spend time with members of our experienced teams of curators, event producers, film critics, marketing and operational staff. You will also get complimentary tickets to festival screenings when you are not on shift - and a volunteer T-shirt.
Festival assistants – Thu 25 – Sun 28 July
Volunteer briefing / Induction Training day – Sun 21 July, 10:00am – 12:00 midday (+ optional film screening)
This will include insights from various members of the festival and Watershed teams. It’s also a chance to meet your fellow volunteers, find out more about what you will be doing as a volunteer and attend a free screening from Watershed’s July film programme. Participation is essential in order to take up a volunteer role at the festival.
What does the role entail?
Our volunteers are a valued and essential part of our approach and key to creating a friendly environment for all to enjoy the festival. We also try, within reason, to be responsive to individuals’ areas of expertise and interest.
Here’s what we expect from our volunteers:
- Attending the volunteer induction training and briefing on Sunday 21 July.
- Staffing the main festival information desk to welcome customers and provide friendly, helpful and informed answers to all frontline queries about the festival.
- Helping with the promotion and documentation of events during the festival.
- Handing out additional publicity material to audiences upon arrival at the cinema and assisting with the seating of late comers.
- Assisting with cinema walks and tours and trips within the festival programme.
- Other reasonable tasks as required of the festival team during the festival.
How do I apply?
To apply to be a volunteer please complete the application form.
We are committed to help you develop your skills and confidence concerning the role you undertake with us and we welcome applications from all backgrounds, nationalities, ages abilities and experience and particularly welcome applications from candidates from BAME backgrounds as they are often under-represented within our team. We will work with candidates to ensure access needs are met.
