Following a fantastic buzz at the sold out DepicT! Showcase filmmakers, distinguished guests and jury members gathered on the evening of Sat 22 Sept for the grand finale of the 18th Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival, the UK’s leading short film festival. Aardman Animations’ David Sproxton, DepicT! Jury member and long-standing supporter of the competition introduced the DepicT! Awards to a full house.
I have spent the last few weeks knee-deep in Books & Print and I'm very excited. Running surgeries at the Pervasive Media Studio has been a real pleasure; reflecting on what we learned from Heritage Sandbox, seeing new relationships blossom and above all talking about ideas. I can't wait for the application deadline. You may not be feeling the same way.

For many years now we have been proud and passionate about Plot to Plate, our ethical, sustainable approach to food. It's a snip to source our meat, veg and fish from people we know and trust in the South West, but sourcing local drinks has proved much more tricky. So it's with great delight that we can now announce we are stocking a wide range of homegrown beers, lagers, wines, spirits... and tea!
Don't be fooled by its modest looks: Bristol is a major player on the international stage, attracting world class culture and artists while simultaneously developing cultural and creative links with our own artists and experts in international cities worldwide.
Huge thanks to all the filmmakers who have submitted their shorts into DepicT! this year. We received a staggering variety of entries from all over the globe – from Brazil and Ethiopia to Germany and Hungary – and we had a very difficult job in selecting the shortlist. In fact, this year we received a record number of entries (over 600 from more than 30 countries!), and now the 15 shortlisted films for DepicT! '12 are available for your viewing pleasure at depict.org.
