Help us to raise Deaf Awareness not just this week but every day – here at Watershed we've made a few short films that may help.

Help us to raise Deaf Awareness not just this week but every day – here at Watershed we've made a few short films that may help.

Here's a few simple but really handy tips about Deaf Awareness...

Now meet some of our team who are here to help everyone when you visit / contact Watershed.

Over the past couple of years with the help and support of  David Ellington, a Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) user, filmmaker and artist from Bristol, we have trained over 60 members of Watershed staff in fingerspelling, basic British Sign Language (BSL) and Deaf Awareness. Our regular programme includes Descriptive Subtitled screenings and a monthly Deaf Conversations about Cinema event, at which both Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing audience members come together for an informal discussion about the themes of one of our current films. The next Deaf Conversations About Cinema is this coming Mon 21 May where will be discussing A Quiet Place, following the Descriptive Subtitled screening at 18:20.

During this week we thought we’d have a bit of fun and encourage our audiences /  customers to try a little bit of British Sign Language… so please join us for BSL Happy Hour in the Café/Bar from 17:00 to 18:00 (Tue- Sat)

If you can sign your drink order at the bar - whether it's a cup of tea, a pint of beer or a glass of wine - you will get 10% off the price. And don't worry, if you're not a BSL user or you're a little hesitant, our team will be happy to help you learn the signs or check out the following clips of John (one of our team members) signing a few of our most popular drinks…
