#GivingTuesday 2018: A Day for Giving

Posted on Mon 26 Nov 2018

This #GivingTuesday, help us to continue our work with young people to build confidence, learn new skills and have their voices heard, through Rife Magazine (our online platform run by young people for young people). And in return? Get a chance to win a private screening of a film of your choice!

This #GivingTuesday, help us to continue our work with young people to build confidence, learn new skills and have their voices heard, through Rife Magazine (our online platform run by young people for young people). And in return? Get a chance to win a private screening of a film of your choice!

Forget the excesses and consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday – Tue 27 Nov is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving, the perfect antidote to the two biggest (and hugely consumer-driven) shopping days of the year.

This year we are asking you to donate to help us to continue to empower the next generation of creatives, commentators and change makers (aged 18-24) through Rife. Your support will help amplify the voices, talent, ideas and stories of young people from across Bristol and beyond.

“Rife isn’t just a job, it’s a community brimming with opportunity and positivity I never thought I would experience within a workplace” – Mikael Techane, Rife Content Creator

With the guidance of in-house editors, Rife content creators are gifted 6-month paid internships to connect with local diverse communities, produce stories, share news and inspire their peers. Rife’s outreach activities also mean a huge amount of face to face engagement (over 8000 young people, aged between 11-25) through careers events, employability workshops, industry masterclasses and networking events.

To date, Rife has been made possible through an annual grant of £180,000 from Bristol City Council (BCC). However, due to unprecedented cuts in local government funding, from March 2018 BCC have been unable to continue supporting Rife. This means since then Watershed has been underwriting the costs of Rife, a model that will not be sustainable going forward.

This is why we are asking if you would consider donating the equivalent price of a cinema tickets this #GivingTuesday: to help us fill this gap so Rife can continue to flourish.

As a thank you anyone who donates £10.00 or more before Mon 7 Jan will be given a chance to win a great prize: a private screening of a film of your choice for you and your family and friends!

Here’s how you can get involved:

Donate

Set up a regular monthly donation or make a one off donation.

It’s super simple and your donation can start at just £5.00. You can donate online (there are separate pages for the monthly and one-off options), in person, via Box Office or over the phone on 0117 927 6444. If your total gift is £10.00 or more you will be entered into the prize draw.

Sponsor a Cinema Seat

A brilliant way to support Watershed in addition to being a super special Christmas gift, sponsoring a cinema seat is the ideal gift, commemoration or dedication. Pick a seat in any of our cinemas and decide on what message you’d like to have on your plaque – this is your chance to become part of the furniture and you will be entered into the prize draw for a private screening (who knows, you could get a chance to sit in your seat at your winning film!)

#GivingTuesday is a way for us to also say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us this year and made a difference with their donation, it really means a lot to us. So get thinking about what your ideal film might be and who you would put on the guest list: the prize draw runs until 7 Jan so there’s plenty of time to donate and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck!
