Q&A with cinema audience.

New ticket prices from January 2018

Posted on Mon 4 Dec 2017

We celebrate and champion the diversity of world cinema and make film culture inclusive and accessible for all.

“A truly exceptional cinema. Friendly staff, comfortable seats, wonderful atmosphere.” Google review

Our aim is to offer value and inclusion whilst ensuring that the organisation is sustainable and it can be challenging to find a balance between these sometimes conflicting priorities. It is no secret that public sector austerity is biting hard and the latest culture funding cuts mean that we are increasingly feeling the negative impact.

We price our tickets to be competitive with the other cinemas in the city while offering discounted concession tickets at ALL screenings to people in our community. As part of our planning and budgeting for the future we will be changing our cinema pricing for the first time in 2.5 years.

From Fri 5 Jan 2018 our cinema prices will change to the following:

  • Screenings before 16:00: £8.00 full / £5.00 concessions
  • Screenings after 16:00:  £10.00 full / £8.00 concessions
  • Aged 24 or under? You can see any screening at any time for £5.00

We have retained our clear, straightforward pricing structure to ensure simplicity and we also continue to guarantee that there are no hidden costs for online/advance bookings (in fact we are the only cinema in Bristol who doesn’t charge an online booking fee) or extra charges for things such as 3D. As a social enterprise and registered charity all our income is reinvested into the cultural programme and the development of the organisation.

Our aim is to continue to celebrate and champion the diversity of world and cultural cinema and ensure we stay inclusive and accessible for all – here’s a few words from Mark Cosgrove, our Cinema Curator, that captures our approach:

“The screening of a film is in part a cultural journey; an exploration of what it means to inhabit this moment in the 21st century whether that is a reflection through the historical, a meditation on the contemporary or a projection of the future.”

“Here at Watershed we support films for their capacity to engage with and open up fresh perspectives on our world, societies, cultures and identities. We support audiences in their critical engagement with film creating opportunities for them to connect with both the subject matter and with their fellow audience members and collaborate with colleagues and communities to widen and deepen those connections.”

Thanks to the continued support of you, our audiences, we are able to present an inspiring, diverse film programme that brings audiences, from all walks of life, together, to experience, share and debate, in a relaxed, open environment.

‘This is a cinema that encourages and promotes diverse screening, its endeavors are worthy of emulation and praise - kudos to its curator and the entire team for the collaborative approach to movie screening for its audience.’ Facebook review

Our blend of public and private income streams are vital to maintaining our creative programmes and we will be relying ever more on our donors and our ticket-buying audiences to contribute to our future sustainability and open access.
