Cinema Rediscovered returns for a third edition between Thu 26 - Sun 29 July 2018, bringing the finest digital restorations, contemporary classics and film print rarities back where they belong - on the big screen - at cinemas including Watershed and Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema & Arts.

Cinema Rediscovered taps into the increasing appetite from audiences to rediscover riches from film’s history back on the big cinema screen - as demonstrated by the 2017 edition with 7,639 admissions for over 60 films including nine sold-out events and an inaugural tour comprising 13 venues across the UK.

The third edition celebrates Bristol’s new status as UNESCO City of Film, a global recognition of the city’s outstanding contribution to film culture and provides the perfect excuse for a cinematic city break.

Festival Founder and co-curator Mark Cosgrove comments:

“The festival provides an opportunity to revisit and reassess the unique experience of films in their intended environment: the cinema. Other art forms have their temples - museums, galleries, opera house, theatres. For films, cinema is where they can truly come alive and be rediscovered.”

Building on the success of the 2017’s UK tour including leading independent cinemas Broadway (Nottingham), GFT (Glasgow), Home (Manchester), QFT (Belfast), Filmhouse (Edinburgh), Showroom (Sheffield), mac (Birmingham), Chapter (Cardiff) and Exeter Phoenix and our partnership with MUBI, Cinema Rediscovered highlights will be made available to audiences across the country from August - November 2018.

Plans for 2018 to complement the public programme include an expanded film critic’s ‘Talent Campus’ led by writer, programmer and critic Tara Judah which invites aspiring and early career critics to reflect on the state of film criticism, marking the anniversary of influential critic André Bazin as well as a series of Archive Sessions with producers, curators, musicians and archivists designed to inspire and inform today’s cinema professionals.
