(Un)true Colours: Secrets and Lies in Japanese Cinema

The hugely successful Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme returns to Watershed with another exciting lineup showcasing the versatility and uniqueness of Japanese cinema.

This year's programme has the theme of secrets and lies - everybody has told a lie or kept a secret at least once in their lives. Whether for good intentions or bad, it is a fundamental and intriguing aspect of human nature that provides inspiration to countless storytellers and filmmakers.

With diverse cinematic voices, this season features some of the best examples of cinema from Japan and looks at how the country's filmmakers have been drawn to portraying all the colours of human nature. Screenwriter Kosuke Mukai (Gukoroku - Traces of Sin, a grisly noir that has been described as a film that David Fincher would be proud of) joins us a for Q&A after the film on Sun 4 Feb.
