International short film competition

Depict is Watershed's short filmmaking competition that has been challenging filmmakers to create 90 second mini movie masterpieces since its creation by Brief Encounters in 1998. Whether you're an emerging filmmaker or simply a fan of snappy cinematic treats, is your passport to pint-sized pleasure.

Part of the world-renowned
Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival, Depict has offered priceless industry exposure and unparalleled prizes to its competition entrants for nearly 20 years. Hundreds of submissions are received annually from  around the world, from some of the most creative, inventive and original filmmakers around.

Each year all the shortlisted filmmakers are invited to attend Encounters and see their 90-second creations on the big screen before a consistently sold-out audience. The winning films are then announced at the prestigious Awards Ceremony and all go on to be enjoyed by thousands online through, in cinemas through the digital screen network, and at other film festivals and public screenings around the world.

Depict is committed to the development of fantastic talent, which it encounters each year and takes pride in its long history of accomplished alumni. Many of DepicT!'s filmmakers have been named Stars of Tomorrow in industry bible Screen International and their competition films have gone on to be regarded as little classics.

It's no mean feat packing style, substance and entertainment into a minute-and-a-half, but DepicT!'s mini-movies never fail to hit the spot.
