Composing Music with Humans and Computers

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Nov 2019

The ability for machines to compose novel, interesting and humanesque music is an important and recurring theme in the history of computer music. However, little research has been done on how to make generative music techniques accessible to the everyday music composer.

IGME: the Interactive Generative Music Environment is a music sequencer that supports the exploration of generative and algorithmic music techniques. It uses an easy to use interface built on common music software paradigms that ultimately promotes a human and computer cooperative, creative system.

In this special Lunchtime Talk Samuel Hunt will discuss the key design requirements for supporting interactive generative music composition, and examples of music composed using this system.
