Acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Like Father, Like Son) returns with a powerful and emotional story of family conflicts starring Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche as a mother and daughter in the film industry whose professional collaboration triggers long-buried resentments.

Septuagenarian screen legend Fabienne (Deneuve) is charismatic and fiercely talented. She has always prioritised her work above all else. The recent publication of Fabienne's memoir precipitates a visit from her long-estranged daughter Lumir (Binoche), a screenwriter, along with Lumir's actor husband, Hank (Ethan Hawke), and their daughter. The reunion between mother and daughter quickly turns into confrontation, however, as truths are told, accounts settled, and loves and resentments confessed.

A warm and quietly moving family portrait and an insightful look at the underlying fabric of parent-child relationships, Kore-eda's first film made outside his native Japan is a story that feels at once absolutely French and absolutely Kore-eda. A winning combination...
