OKIDO

OKIDO for Homeschooling

Watershed Recommends: Fri 24 - Thu 30 April

Online + Workshop

Please note: This event took place in April 2020

As we stay at home with our loved ones, some of us are faced with the challenge of homeschooling our children. So our friends at OKIDO have turned the Learn-Through-Play workshops that we’d usually host in the building into an online resource that parents, carers and teachers can access at home for free.

Suitable for children aged 3-8, these OKIDO downloadable workshops are designed for families and can easily be delivered at home. They were created in collaboration with the British Science Association and follow the learning to facilitate Early Years and KS1 development using easy-to-find objects from around the home.

An easy, fun and shared experienced between adult and young scientist, there are currently five themes to choose from; Nature, Technology and Engineering, My Body, Space and the Sky and How the World Works and each 45 minute learn-through-play workshop works through four simple stages:

  • Watch an episode of the hit CBeebies show - Messy Goes To OKIDO - together.
  • Discuss the science with easy-to-follow pointers around the subject.
  • Complete a make-and-do science activity.
  • Further the learning with a fun, follow-up worksheet.

There’ll be more themes added to the website within the upcoming weeks!

To access the lesson plans, visit www.okido.com and click Homeschooling. Simply sign up to the OKIDO newsletter by entering your email, then PDFs of all the lesson plan will become available for you to print or download. In each lesson plan there is a link to the relevant Messy goes to OKIDO episode ready for watching· prior to the activity.
