Media Tools Interaction and Immersion
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in May 2021
In this week's Lunchtime Talk, Bronnie McCarthy and Michael Armstrong from BBC R&D will be introducing BBC Makerbox, a space for makers and technologists to connect with like-minded creators and experiment with cutting edge technology. They will also share some of the tools that are available on the platform.
The BBC's Makerbox portal is a space for creatives to share their knowledge and experiences of using technology to make digital prototypes and products, both using MakerBox tools and with similar technology, to help foster a community of makers who can learn from each other.
Bronnie and Michael will share how you can join this creative community - where the weird and wonderful collide and demonstrate some of the tools available including StoryKit; a tool for the creation of interactive and personalised Object Based media which was used to build Click 1000, a fully interactive version of BBC News's technology magazine programme Click and Discover Your Dæmon an interactive trailer for the first series of His Dark Materials.
They will also introduce Audio Orchestrator, a tool for building immersive and interactive soundscapes which was used to create The Vostok-K Incident. It uses everyday devices such as mobile phones so that the experience can adapt to fit many different types of devices - even if this changes during listening.
