Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in July 2015

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

In this week's talk product designer, maker, manufacturing engineer and 3D printing enthusiast Richard de Lancey (AKA deL) will talk about how to start a hardware company in the light of his experiences in the Studio and with the UK, Chinese and Malaysian manufacturing scenes.

deL was nominated for Stuff Magazine's Design of the Year award for his work on AlphaSphere and is currently running his third startup business; DELCO - a design and manufacture agency based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is a former Resident of the Studio, having spent four years here as Director of Design and Manufacture at nu desine. These were a roller-coaster four years during which he designed and manufactured the AlphaSphere, set up production lines in UK and China, and learnt first hand the difficulties in trying to launch, fund, and market a hardware startup.

After leaving nu desine, deL moved to Kuala Lumpur, where he started his next company; DELCO. deL's vision for DELCO is to make the road from idea to production line much easier for other hardware startups by using his Western background and on-ground-presence to demystify the manufacturing landscape in Asia.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
