The Making of Black Tonic: Where Technology Meets Theatre Adventure in a Hotel
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in Oct 2015
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
In this Lunchtime Talk, Studio resident and Artistic Director of The Other Way Works Katie Day will take us behind the polished hotel exterior and spill the beans on what its like to create and produce an interactive theatre production in an operational hotel.
The Other Way Works creates playful theatre that immerses their audiences in the story. Their Production Black Tonic is where Interactive theatre meets mini-break as you play detective in the bedrooms and corridors of a real hotel. First created and presented in 2008, Black Tonic returns in 2015 in a newer and shinier version, and is being presented in Bristol in partnership with Watershed and The Grand Hotel from the 29 Sept - 3 Oct. (Tickets for the performances can be purchased here.)
Katie has been collaborating with Watershed's Creative Technologist David Haylock to build a magical card table interface for the 2015 show, and during the talk she will be discussing the research, design and implementation of this and other technologies employed in the production.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
