Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in April 2016

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

Straight from their triumphant panel at SXSW Interactive, Studio residents Chloe Meineck, Peter Bennett, Tom Metcalfe and Studio Producer Verity McIntosh are back to share with us the panel that they gave at this year's festival - Subtle Interfaces: Designing for Calm Tech.

Writer Bruce Sterling tweeted "It may be impossible to get more British-design than this"...we're going to take that as a compliment!

About the panel:

Some of the world’s best technologies do one thing brilliantly. This panel brings together leading UK creatives and researchers who are developing products and experiences that are calm, slow and often magical. When we let go of trying to be all things to all people, we make space for imaginative interfaces and disruptive ideas.

Our panellists embrace cutting edge technologies, working with physical and digital materials. They design products that respond to specific social contexts; ranging from the personal relationships that we have with objects in our homes, to the social displacement inherent when moving to a care home, to our many and varied experiences of the cities we live in.

This panel is kindly supported by Invest Bristol and Bath and UK Trade & Investment

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
