Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Nov 2017

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

Space exploration used to be something only available to scientists, astronauts working at Universities and Space agencies like NASA. However these days it is possible to send your name to Mars, launch your very own spacecraft to the Moon or even help to discover exoplanets.

Opportunities exist online and around the world for absolutely anyone to get involved in exploring space for fun, science or even for a profit.

In this Lunchtime Talk studio resident and physicist Michael Johnson will discuss how he is working on accessible low cost space exploration systems for companies, universities and space agencies around the world and the opportunities available for anyone to participate in such projects. Michael will also touch on some of his current projects, including the spacecraft that fits in your pocket, Hubble class space telescopes that fit in your gym bag and spacecrafts that print other spacecrafts in space!

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to studio@watershed.co.uk
