Advice for social enterprises
Ed Rogers is a Pervasive Media Studio resident who is seeking to get Bristol Braille Technology off the ground. He approached me yesterday for some advice on where he could look for support and funding and as this is not my area of expertise, I turned to twitter and the network to make some suggestions.
Have had some great input so thought I would share it here:
A few people suggested looking at Unlimited, a charity which supports social entrepreneurs and Bethnal Green Ventures, 'a practical school for people who want to use the web and mobile technology to change stuff that really matters'.
Nick Sturge, of SetSquared suggested looking at Technology Strategy Board calls around assisted living and the assisted living action network. He also gave the sage advice that whilst there are some special things about a social enterprise, any enterprise should be run as a business, regardless of whether the “profit” is social or financial.
Matt Jukes suggested looking at Simpl - a social innovation market place and Melanie Hayes suggested The Young Foundation and reading Paul Miller's blog on setting up a social start up.
Thank you Nick Sturge, Matt Jukes, Melananie Hayes, Bath Spa Careers
