Anti VJ a visual label, initiated by a group of European artists fascinated by the use of light and its influence on perception. From plasma to cinema, mobile phones to TVs, affordable display technology has largely been limited to rectangular screens. Breaking out of the box, AntiVJ’s mapping technology creates stunning canvases on buildings, objects and even cars.

Apr - Jul 2009

As leaders in the field of large scale projections onto buildings and objects AntiVJ have already created some monumental projections in public spaces across Europe. They combine powerful video projectors with digital mapping techniques to create huge displays so precise that they highlight individual architectural details like windows or bricks.

Their process breaks with the existing norm that affordable display technology is limited to the rectangular screens of TV, mobile phones and cinema. Anti VJ’s mapping technology, in contrast is able to use the contours of any 3D object to create stunning canvasses on buildings. The mapping process to produce this type of spectacle is time consuming and unwieldy and five or six different pieces of software are used to create one projection.

AntiVJ’s 2009 Media Sandbox project helped them to develop a simple, practical piece of software that enables users from many sectors including education, advertising, architecture, culture and heritage to easily employ mapping techniques, offering a simple and effective way to project content on to any surface, object or volume.
