Pioneering not-for-profit organisation Julie’s Bicycle have announced Watershed as part of their Creative Climate Leadership (CCL) programme - an international training and transformation programme to empower artists and cultural professionals to take action on the climate and ecological crisis with impact, creativity, and resilience.

Zoe Rasbash, Watershed's Environmental Emergencies Action Researcher says:

"I couldn't be more excited to be joining the Julie's Bicycle Creative Climate Leadership programme on behalf of Watershed. We’ve spent the last two years establishing a bedrock of environmental action, and I'm looking forward to asking the harder, more complex questions with the support of the expert team over at Julie’s Bicycle.”

The Creative Climate Leadership programme will give Watershed access to training, mentoring, expert advice and support. Watershed has an ambitious year of climate action ahead, and this programme is an opportunity to learn from experts and collaborate with organisations with similarly radical ambitions.

In 2019, Watershed declared a climate emergency, forming an Environment Group drawn from staff across the organisation who lead Watershed's carbon reduction action and seek to:

  • Achieve net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, building on the ambitions of Bristol City Council and the Culture Declares Emergency movement.
  • Consider all aspects of sustainability throughout our business, beyond just emission reductions; to waste, biodiversity, and climate justice.
  • Ensure our net-zero ambitions and consequent actions align with and support our commitment to inclusion.
  • Share knowledge to enable everyone across our organisation to act.
  • Engage our audiences in conversations around the environment and climate justice.
  • Be transparent, accountable and honest along the way.

In 2023, our priorities are focused on the grounding work necessary to create a solid basis for transformative sustainable action across the organisation, as well as research into areas which will enable us to undertake action in the years going forward. You can read more about Watershed's Climate Action Activity here
