One of our characters is video based, we are using the medium as a way to represent the past, another time or space. In particular a lead character (not wanting to give to much away) A little like fading to black and white in a film. We would like to play on the idea that you normally can't interact with the past or for that matter a video. Especially not a individual character.

I have been working with Ben Ede and using the Kinect and the data coming from it we managed to perform silhouette tracking. Using the persons movement forward and backwards in the space - and moving on from this movement left to right - we can trigger characters reactions filmed on video. Initially we tried to match the person step for step and realised that actually this just seemed unrealistic. The character need to respond in a more gestural fashion so we defined depth points at which the character would react and move towards you.

As with all this it's early days but I was really pleased with the effect there was something about a video specifically reacting to you and doing so like a person standing in a crowd that really worked. Apologies the video ended having to be recorded on a mobile but hopefully you get the idea.
