Over the next couple of weeks, the Watershed will be showing a couple of films that link up with some of the interests of the Pervasive Media Studio and its residents.

Project Wild Thing is David Bond’s call to parents to ‘stop buying iPads and take your children outdoors.’ Having grown up playing outdoors daily, Bond was staggered by the fact that the amount of time British children spend outdoors has shrunk by 50% in a generation. But Bond’s mission is not just about the future of childhood; there are scary implications of raising a generation of children that are out of touch with nature. In response Bond appointed himself ‘marketing director for nature’ and met with experts in neurology, play, branding and marketing to an attempt to sell “nature” back to us.

Next up is Future my Love, a film that considers different social and economic models whilst being shaped by the filmmaker’s recent heartbreak. The film follows Maja Borg on a road trip to the Venus Project in Florida, home of 95-year-old futurist Jacque Fresco, whose work advocates a radical overhaul of society via technological means. Borg draws parallels between her personal loss and those incurred in the wake of the financial crisis. Throughout her journey Borg deftly weaves humanity’s ability to create pleasure and pain with equally dramatic effects. This duel narrative intervenes in the gap between the personal and the societal, and exposes the need for us to share ideas on what our future could be.

Project Wild Thing will be shown at the Watershed from Fri 15 – Sun 17 November.

Future my Love runs from  Fri 15 - Thu 21 November.

The Studio is currently commissioning documentary works through our Future Documentary Sandbox project. This aim of this is to ask and stimulate questions around the role and shape of documentary as digital forms of communication and interaction open up new modes of consumption and change audience behaviours.

We are delighted to announce that one of the creators of Project Wild Thing, Amy Rose, has been awarded a residency at the Studio as part of our Graduate and New Talent Residencies.
