This week has been all about interactive and immersive documentary; We had the Future Documentary Showcase, the launch of ANAGRAM’s Door Into the Dark and iDocs, a two day symposium, interrogating the field of Interactive Documentary. Read on to find out more...

This week, REACT’s Future Documentary Sandbox had its showcase. The participants of the scheme’s six projects all came to Watershed to present and invite people to test their interactive documentaries, which span a broad range of subjects, from a hymn to humdrum element Boron to the story of Orion, a mysterious masked performer with the same vocal chords as Elvis Presley. Have a look at the FutureDoc microsite to find out more about the projects.

The DCRC hosted iDocs this week in Watershed, which brought Leading practitioners, producers and scholars to debate and reflect on the use of new digital media in cutting edge documentary making. To find out more and watch the talks, visit the iDocs website.

At the beginning of the week, REACT hosted a China Creative Economy Exchange Workshop in the Studio, where Chinese and UK creatives and researchers came together to discuss ideas for projects centering around a range of upcoming digital challenges. The participants of the exchange pitched all their ideas at the end of the two-day workshop, to others in the workshop and studio residents.

Unfortunately, the launch of Pocket Spacecraft’s KickSat mission, which was scheduled to take place last week, has been delayed until Monday 31st March. Ideally held at the Studio, the event, which will see the launch of 104 sprite satellites into orbit around the earth, will take place at 3:41am on the Monday morning. The delay is reported to have happened because a “Sewing Machine, used to stitch the cloth shields that are used to protect the capsule’s payload, potentially caused CRS-3 Dragon contamination”: Space exploration is a complex business.

Start-up residents, ANAGRAM, have been enticing people into the Door Into the Dark under the Studio for the iDocs interactive documentary symposium. Working with Tom from Calvium, they have been using iBeacon technology to trigger content while blindfolded participants are guided through a prepared space by a long, meandering rope. As this is still taking place, it wouldn’t be right to describe too much of what happens in the 30-minute experience, but suffice to say it is a ground-breaking exploration of immersive documentary.

Bristol Youth Links have uploaded a video tracing the progress of the Bristol Talent Lab, which took place in the Studio a few weeks ago. The lab aimed to bring the best of Bristol’s young, online voices together to create content and deliberate on what an online platform for young people should have to offer.

If you are going to or through East Sussex at any point in the next three weeks, drop in to Bodiam Castle to take part in the soft launch of Splash and Ripple's A Knight's Peril. Using medieval echo horns to catch echoes from the castle walls, players will follow the stories of the people who lived there when it was first built. This 14th Century choose your own adventure game will be soft launching during Bodiam's opening hours.
