So at the end of Week 2, I think we're gaining some insights into what kind of product we might end up with from the residency. There's still more research to be done, but we've now widened the scope slightly and are looking at two paths, which may converge, or we may need to pick one or the other, soon:

(i) Hideable, wireless speakers to place in an environment to emit music for the dancers and audience to hear

(ii) Objects such as the cups & saucers, beer bottles, mobile phones, newspapers, etc, with accelerometers and bluetooth/wireless transmitters or similar, that can be passed between dancers and audience. The data from the accelerometers could then be transmitted to a computer with an interface such as Arduino that can interpret the gestures that are made with the objects and pass them to a processing environment such as MaxMSP/Pd that can effect musical sounds, which would be emitted by either (i) or a more conspicuous sound system...

With both of these aims, the principle concern is wireless - we're looking at Roving Networks' Coolbox, amongst other products.

That's loosely where we're headed at the moment - if you can suggest anything we should consider, please do drop us a line! :)
