The Studio would like to host a Young Rewired State Festival of Code at Watershed from Monday 28th to Thursday 31st July 2014. In order to be able to collaborate with Young Rewired State on their great programme we are looking for volunteer mentors. Do you have some time to support the next generation of coders?
Do you know someone who might?
The Festival of Code is an annual celebration of everything code for those aged 18 and under. It occurs in regional centres all over the UK and this year ends with a long weekend in partnership with i-DAT at Plymouth University, where everybody comes together and showcases their achievements.

Through taking part in the Festival of Code the Pervasive Media Studio hopes to support the next generation of coders in Bristol.  In order to make the week a success we are looking for volunteer mentors to support the young people at the festival.

We're looking for Mentors that could:
•    provide expertise in programming, design, presentation skills, agile, ideation, robotics, open data, open government data, graphics
•    assist the Pervasive Media Studio staff in curating the group

•    assess skills and encouraging collaboration

Being a mentor is a gentle art of being sensitive to the needs of the those in attendance, some will require encouragement; some will need to be left alone. As the event progresses it becomes about focus and preparation for presentations in Plymouth. Mentors may also need to reach out beyond the room to people in their own networks who may be able to assist with specific challenges.

Ideally we are looking for people who can commit to working with the young people throughout the full week from Monday 28th – Thursday 31st July from 10.00 – 17.00. If you are unable to attend for the full four days but could commit some time please do still get in touch.

What we can offer in return:
•    Free half-day training on working with young people

•    Complementary lunch and reimbursement of travel expenses

•    Free cinema tickets

If you are interested in working with us, please email me: Jess.hoare@watershed.co.uk by 21th May 2014 with a brief summary of your skills and the dates you are available.
