What an amazing start to an amazing journey. The talent of the other residents has overwhelmed me. Along with Lawrence Hoo, I also met Jon and Vytautas from Somestic Media and Alec and Nikki from No Stone unturned.  We each introduced our projects and ourselves and I was intrigued to learn about the various approaches to their work. David And Victoria then took us on an amazing behind the scenes look at the mechanics of the watershed. We met Erwin in the projection room who took us around the behind the scenes and showed us how the projectors worked and the history of the space. It was great to learn that we had their full support for our projects. Coming from a film making background, I found this tour invaluable to better understand the watershed.

Throughout the week I learnt about dreaming the impossible, researching techniques and getting to grips with the story of our project.

Eleanor Pender gave us some useful advise on identifying audiences and to understand why we are targeting a specific audience. This was really helpful in allowing me to think more specific about how to better engage the audience with the story we want to tell.

On the last day we meet our mentors and delivered a lunchtime talk. Even though we have spoken about Cargo so many times, I still feel nervous presenting it, but it all went well with the audience asking some good questions and providing good constructive feedback.

Learning about what my mentor has achieved made listening to his advise all the more important, as this is the first time Lawrence and I are taking our respective practices and fusing them into a new form.

So despite having a bad back, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week of the residency and really looking forward to the weeks ahead.
